| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, leaflets and funding requests relating to the Association of Members of Boards of Visitors (AMBoV). Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: AMBoV became a registered charity in 1986 though its original constitution dates to 1981. AMBoV is a voluntary and independent association of individual members of Boards. The Home Secretary appoints members of Boards of Visitors as the watchdogs of the prison service. Visitors report on the state of prison premises, the administration of the prison and treatment of prisoners and call attention to authorities any matters in need of consideration and review. AMBoV aims to educate, inform and support members of Board of Visitors of penal institutions in England and Wales. Nature of support: In 1991 a previous grant of AMBoV was reduced to £1,000 as the remainder of the required funds were found elsewhere. Minutes: B&GSCT 7411.
