Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: The BUCP was established in 1985 for the general purpose of minimising the effects of social ills on the community. The specific aims of the project are to 1) acquire a base in the Handsworth area, 2) provide a day nursery, 3) provide supplementary education for children and adults, 4) provide day and evening youth clubs, 5) provide training in practical skills, 6) encourage the development for drama, handicraft, musical skills and poetry writing, 7) provide a day care centre for the elderly and the disabled, 8) provide a counselling and advice service and 9) develop a housing association and hostel. Nature of support: In 1985 the Trust agreed to commit up to £4,000 to the project. A further grant of £750 towards the expenses of running a summer school was subsequently agreed.
