Applicant overview: The HSHAG is a registered charity formed to press for immediate and effective action in the face of a housing crisis among young single homeless and potentially homeless people in Handsworth. HSHAG was founded in May 1977. It became a registered housing association in 1986. Nature of support: In 1982 HSHAG was granted £1,550 for temporary secretarial assistance. A further small grant of £100 was made towards minor repairs at the HSHAG office. In 1983 the Trust approved to underwrite up to £6,000 for the operating costs of two hostels. This grant was not required. Later that year the Trust made a single unconditional grant of £4,000 to HSHAG. In 1985 the Trust approved four annual grants of £4,500 per annum for general expenses at the HSHAG education base. That same year the Southfield Trust recommended a grant of £1,500 to a vehicle project run by HSHAG. A Trust grant was also made for the purchase of a heavy-duty vacuum cleaning system. In 1986 the Trust approved a grant of £850 for legal and professional expenses resulting from registration as a housing association.
