St Cuthbert's Church administers to the needs of this community and provides a number of social services. In 1986 an application was made to employ a Parish Community Worker for the purposes of, 1) forming, together with the vicar and curate, the nucleus of a community at the centre of the parish, 2) reaching out from the church into the community, and 3) bringing the community into the church. Nature of support: In 1986 the Paul S. Cadbury Trust made a grant of £5,000 towards a study of community needs in Castle Vale. In 1987 three grants of £5,000 per annum were approved for further community work. In 1988 this grant was rescinded after the church failed to find matching funds.
