The Centre aims to, 1) carry out research and development work with local authorities and other organisations trying to develop and implement inter-agency strategies to combat poverty, 2) disseminate the findings from the action-research through seminars, courses and conferences designed to share experience and to contribute to the development of good practice in local strategies to combat poverty, 3) use this material to contribute to a better understanding of the nature of poverty and of effective local strategies for combating poverty, and 4) contribute to theories of the role and potential of the local state, as part of the LGC's wider work on economic and social strategies. Nature of support: In 1989 the Trust agreed to support a Senior Research Fellow post at the LGC at £27,000, £28,000 and £29,000 per annum respectively.
