The Centre aims to, 1) carry out research and development work with local authorities and other organisations trying to develop and implement inter-agency strategies to combat poverty, 2) disseminate the findings from the action-research through seminars, courses and conferences designed to share experience and to contribute to the development of good practice in local strategies to combat poverty, 3) use this material to contribute to a better understanding of the nature of poverty and of effective local strategies for combating poverty, and 4) contribute to theories of the role and potential of the local state, as part of the LGC's wider work on economic and social strategies. Local Perspectives and Action on Social Justice (LPASJ) is an LGC research programme that aims to map the social and economic issues on peripheral housing estates, and look to evaluate the local and central government intervention in addressing these issues.
