Applicant overview: In 1983 Aquarius and the Birmingham Probation Trust agreed to trial the use of court based alcoholism workers. The general aim of CAS is to prevent re-offending when an offence has been alcohol related, to do this working from the Courts, making use of community resources. The programme was launched in 1984. Nature of support: In 1983 the Trust approved three annual grants of up to £10,000 toward the cost of employing CAS staff.
