| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, grant overview, reports, annual reports, accounts, copies of newspaper cuttings and funding requests relating to Coventry Resource and Information Centre (CRIS) Community Arts Programme (CAP). Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Paul S. Cadbury Trust, Minority Arts Programme. Applicant overview: CAP was established to compliment traditional visual and performing arts and to encourage greater community involvement in the arts. Activities in the project include silk screening and photography. The project's specific aims are 1) to support efforts to improve the general quality of life through community arts projects, 2) to enable groups to incorporate a new dimension into their campaigns to take more control over their lives and the decisions which affect them, 3) to directly pass on skills to all members of the community and to demonstrate that arts skills are not difficult to learn and that they are not the preserve of the professional artist, 4) to provide support services to people involved in self help action to combat social problems, and 5) to support initiatives to more fully utilise existing community facilities. Nature of support: In 1980 the Trust approved a grant of between £1,000 and £2,000 per annum over three years to CAP. MAP trustees subsequently increased this total by £2,000 per annum plus a single payment of £2,000. In 1984 MAP offered CAP a grant of £2,500 per annum for two years. This was subsequently approved by the Trust. In 1986 payments to CAP were taken over by the Paul S. Cadbury Trust and extended at gradually diminishing levels until the financial year for 1988-1989.
