| Description | The front file cover is marked 'Collier Laddie (End Sequence) February / March 1974'. It is also heavily annotated, including a list of names [possibly cast / stage crew members?]/ The rear file cover bears a sketch diagram [possibly a stage/ auditorium plan?]
The file contains a script of 'The Collier Laddie' marked as 'master'. It consists of 24 sheets, the first of which is handwritten and the rest as typescript. The script has colour coded markings [presumably corresponding to photographic slide boxes similarly marked as red and green [see Ms 1611/F/4/?]. This script is also heavily annotated in pencil.
Also contained in this file are handwritten notes. 'Collier Laddie Original Slide Sequence' is dated 29/04/1976. An undated list of [presumably] slide references and titles is also included, as is a note containing details of venues for the show in Kent. [also undated].
Included in the file are papers detailing a new ending for the production. These are dated 25/09/1974, 18/12/1974, 19/12/1974, 20/12/1974 and 22/07/1975 and some are annotated in pencil and are colour coded in a similar fashion to the 'master' script described above.
Cataloguer's Note: Some sheets of this new ending are typed onto very thin 'file flimsy' paper and have therefore been copied onto archival quality paper as part of this cataloguing project. Access will normally be to the copies in the interests of conserving the originals.
Handwritten research notes related to the new ending are included. These consider economic, labour relations and political matters from the 1950s onwards. An annotated copy of the final production script for 'The Big Hewer' is also included.
The correspondence element of this file mainly relates to songs and poems provided by individuals [miners or people associated with mining communities] to Banner. These include the following: 'Fern Fossil' by Derek Bowman, 13/03/1974 'The Song of the Retired Miner' by William Gautry, 08/10/1974 'For Finlay McIntyre' by David Miller, 26/11/1974 'An Eight-Shift Death' by David Miller,26/11/1974 'Prophecy for Stable Deputy' by Jack Morrison, nd Constructive criticism on some of these is provided by Parker, and discussions about Banner's entitlement to include them in the production are recorded. Cataloguer's Note: There may be copyright issues.
A handwritten note entitled 'Davy Miller, Ferrybridge' [dated 18/05/1974] is also included. This appears to be a record of a conversation between [Parker?] and Miller concerning political and economic issues relating to mines and mining communities.
A programme cover [for the South Wales Miners' Gala day 08/06/1974] has been used a file divider between the scripts and the correspondence. However, further notes and versions of the copies of the new ending follow straight on from the correspondence without any formal division. |
| AdminHistory | This file is marked as CP's [Charles Parker's] Slide Script. It also contains various correspondence, poems and notes and an additional ending to the production. |
