| Description | This file contains notes and correspondence showing the approach that Banner took to promoting the production to trades unionists, and also its development from 'Motor Trade Show' to 'On the Brink'.
Copies of correspondence between Banner and the union hierarchies within AUEW [TASS] and T & GWU are included, indicating both Banner's desire to gain official union endorsement for the production and their concern that they would otherwise be perceived in a negative light by rank and file activists, as merely a part of the media rather than part of the labour movement. A copy letter is included from Bob Whiskens [a member of Banner Theatre and a BL shop steward] to union collegaues, in which he identifies theatre and music as a means of countering negative views promulgated against motor workers.
Notes of a meeting about 'The Motor Trade Show' dated 10/03/1981 provide an insight into the creative and practical issues considered by Banner. A cast list is also included, as are some draft notes for performance 'units' for the show.
Cataloguer's note: An annotated note about the 'Midlands Dollmakers and Toymakers Club' is enclosed, which is interpreted as indicating that Banner considered the use of models in this production. |
