AdminHistoryThis production was produced in conjunction with the National Association of Local Government Officers's campaign of that name. NALGO provided £25,000.00 funding and the show was concerned with privatisation, cuts in service and employment and how workers could fight back.

The origins of the show lay in Banner's support for the parents of Nechells School, Elliot Street which had been threatened with closure. Members of Banner set up 'socials' in the streets around the school, assisting in the fight to retain the school and collecting many tape recordings and photographs. These provided the raw material for 'Put People First'. ironically for a production part funded by NALGO, given that NALGO members of Birmingham Education Department had [unsucessfully] attempted to close Nechells School. Tensions between Banner and local NALGO officials ensued, although rank and file members [and NALGO nationally] were supportive of the show.
