| Description | Originally developed as 'The Great Scapegoat' for Birmingham Polytechnic Students Union, this emerged as 'The Race Show' and attempted to address racism within British society. As a result of time constraints, Banner moved away from reliance on actuality recordings. This production was instead compiled largely from documentary sources. However, Banner received much negative feedback.
Banner Theatre developed 'The Great Divide' [MS 1611/B/8] in response to this criticism and returned to its original research and performance development techniques grounded in actuality. 'The Great Divide' handled racism within a framework of a wider political analysis of Capitalist society.
Cataloguer's note: Some scripts and notes relating to 'The Race Show' are included in 'The Great Divide' where they relate to the script development of the latter production. |
