TitleLetters to the Farmer family
LevelSub Series
Date1727 - 1768
DescriptionThis section contains letters sent to James Farmer, Joseph Farmer, his brother, and Joseph Farmer, their father, mainly from other members of the Farmer family. Letters to James Farmer and to Joseph Farmer (the elder) largely discuss family business and financial matters, particularly the administration of wills of members of the Farmer family. Letters from James Farmer to his brother Joseph also focus on business affairs, specifically those related to the supply of guns from the family ironworking firm to merchants in Liverpool, where Joseph was based. By contrast, letters from Mary Farmer to her brother Joseph are largely concerned with personal and family matters and contain much information about formal events, such as births, marriages and deaths, in the lives of members of the Farmer family, and some details about similar events in the lives of their social acquaintances such as members of the Barclay and Plumsted families
