Discusses his social activities in Africa and gives details about his friends amongst the other officers there. These include Charles Squire and Hamilton. He and they are the only survivors in Africa of 15 officers who came out in 1792 on the 'Hero'. Reflects on the various severe illnesses suffered by officers at forts on the coast. Gives details of his recent trading which include the sale of slaves, ivory and gold to the captains of ships. The letter also discusses family affairs and news of mutual friends. |
