Martyn Wyndham - Read was born in Sussex in 1942. He went to Australia in 1960 and while working on the south Australian sheep station 'Emu Springs', he developed an interest in the folksongs of the outback, collecting many songs from drovers, bush workers etc. He returned to England in 1967 and worked with Bert Lloyd. In the 1970s he started the 'Maypoles to Mistletoe' concerts and he is also the instigator of the Song Links project of English and Australian folk music and song.
