Cashmore, retired City Librarian of Birmingham Public Libraries; discussing his life, his career, his travels across Europe in the first half of the twentieth century, the libraries and reading cultures in these various countries, and other related experiences and adventures. The interview took place on 15th February 1959.
The last two reels in the series, on MS 4000/6/1/11/2/C, also contain 10 Irish style folk songs, by James Simmons (1933 - 2001) an Irish musician from Derry, Northern Ireland. The song performances are live, and were recorded in May 1962. |
