| AdminHistory | 'The Jewellery: An Impression of the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter' was the first of a series of three programmes for BBC Midland Home Service in a series called 'Too Late Tomorrow'. The series was about the "changing face and the changing ways of Birmingham". 'The Jewellery' focussed on the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham. It included oral testimonies from people that lived and worked in the Jewellery Quarter interspersed with songs about the Jewellery Quarter and the jewellery trade. The programme features an introduction by David Hughes, a Birmingham-born singer.
The credits for the programme are as follows:
'Complied by Brian Vaughton with additional lyrics by John Chapman and Ian Campbell set to Traditional British airs.' (quoted from the broadcast programme, see MS 4000/6/1/18/5 and MS 4000/6/1/18/6). The singers on the programme were Rosemary Redpath, Lorna Campbell, Ian Campbell and John Campbell. John Campbell also played guitar. The other musicians were Dave Swarbrick, fiddle; Tom Woodward, accordion; and Sheila Chapman, piano. Charles Parker was the producer of the programme. |
