AdminHistory'On The Edge', the sixth Radio Ballad, was broadcast on 13 February 1963. It concerned the themes of adolescence, growing up and the issues and experiences of the younger generation of the time. The actualities are a rich source of information about opinions on fashion, nuclear disarmament, youth culture and social problems of the time.

There were two initial names for the programme, 'On The Edge' and 'On The Eve', more information on this can be found in the paper documents for this project.

The actualities were recorded in Glasgow, Gateshead, Salford, Liverpool, Birmingham, Nottingham, Wellingborough, Bristol and London. The recordings were made by Ewan MacColl, Peggy Seeger and Charles Parker, and the programme contains original folk tracks.

Actualities recorded in Woodstock Grove were recorded in 1958 for an earlier programme about the street, 'Woodstock Grove' itself. The recordings are catalogued here as part of this project as they were kept by Parker as part of this project and some of the recordings appear to have been used for 'On The Edge'.
