| Description | Recording of the first part of a three part documentary programme produced for KPFK News for Pacifica Radio in which the families and lawyers for George Jackson, John Cluchette and Fletta Drumgo discuss their treatment by the legal system, the reasons for them being imprisoned in Soledad, their experiences in prison, and their characters and backgrounds, growing up in Compton, Los Angeles. They talk about their childhoods and lack of opportunities, encounters with the authorities from a young age, the racism and discrimination shown towards them during their education and early lives, their treatment by the police, and the attitudes towards and treatment of black prison inmates in general. They also consider the effects that prison life has had on them and the development of George Jackson's political consciousness during his imprisonment. The narrator of the programme gives details of the shooting of a prison guard at Soledad Correctional Training Facility in California in the days following the shooting of three black prisoners, and the indictment of George Jackson, John Cluchette and Fletta Drumgo for the killing of the prison guard. The programme ends with a recording of 'Daddy's in the Jail' (tracks 1-19).
