Tracks 1 - 5, 7 and 9 - 10 are a continuation of the production planning meeting between Banner and NUPE. Tracks 6 and 8 are silent. Tracks 11 - 17 are recordings of NUPE members in Bedworth, Warwickshire.
The discussion about health centres in the West Midlands is continued on Track 1. Reference is made to centres at Droitwich and Telford and medical services at Cheslyn Hay. NUPE's policy (and dispute with doctors about) geriatric services in cottage hospitals is described (Track 2).
Bureaucracy within the NHS is identified as a problem and a discussion occurs about how Banner should handle this issue without alienating NALGO. Charles Parker outlines his ideas for this (Tracks 2 - 3).
Procedures within and access to information about benefits provided by the Department of Health and Social Security (DHSS) are criticised (Track 4).
Parker refers to interviews recently recorded with a teacher and social worker at Benson Primary School (MS 4000/6/1/81/16 & /17) and NUPE officials identify a protest against Shropshire care home closure as a good example for Banner to use in the production. NUPE officials request an update from Banner on progress with the project. (Track 5) Dave Rogers describes difficulties in gaining access to NUPE members, including those at Quinton Hall Care Home for the Elderly (Track 5) and road repair units (Track 9). Track 9 -10 record a discussion about road repairs and maintenance and reference is made to pressures caused by heavy commercial traffic using Bewdley Bridge, Worcestershire.
Tracks 11 - 17 are recordings made by Banner of NUPE members in Bedworth, concerning public expenditure cuts in Warwickshire schools. School caretakers, cleaners and dinner supervisors describe their experiences (Tracks 11 - 13). Track 14 records an interview with Mr Roberts, a NUPE shop steward who describes the composition of the Bedworth Branch. A description of the actual and anticipated effects of cuts by Warwickshire County Council is provided (Tracks 14 -15).
Tracks 16 - 17 record a meeting called by NUPE for North Warwickshire caretakers and cleaners, to discuss the union's approach to public expenditure cuts.
