TitleLetter from Elizabeth Taylor to John and Mary Jane Taylor
LevelItem
Date24 November 1872
DescriptionIn this letter Elizabeth refers to her musical education at school in Saxe-Meiningen, writing that she intended to be taught by the schoolmaster Herr Hockstein next Easter when he had time to supervise another pupil. Miss Trinks had complimented Elizabeth on her piano playing at a recent exam. Elizabeth remarks on the happy atmosphere in the school, writing that the girls sometimes clapped and played music together until half past ten at night. She adds that a number of the girls had asked to see Elizabeth's father's photographs of English scenery.

Elizabeth includes a number of comments about clothing in this letter, noting that her sister Margaret (Pearlie) had bought a sash for her dress. Elizabeth also wished to buy one and tells her parents about an 'exquisite pink one' decorated with bows and ribbons. The letter concludes with Elizabeth asking for her aunt Caroline (Carrie) Cash's new address following her marriage to George Barrow of Birmingham so the girls could write to her.

Please note that the first page of this letter features crossed writing and is difficult to read in places.
