| Description | In this letter Janet writes that she was in the second class at school as there was no room in the first class. She writes that time dragged at school adding 'I have never been teazed a bit the girls are all very kind to me but I do miss the love I had at home'. Janet describes her school timetable to Elizabeth and writes that she had been down to the beach in Scarborough, adding that she enjoyed learning science more than algebra.
Janet provides an account of the 'great com[m]otion' caused by the General Election, writing how the girls at her school had participated in events. She also comments on the involvement of the girls' father John Taylor in the election. Janet concludes her letter remarking on the weather and describing the gifts which she had received from family before going to school. She also suggests that it would be 'very jolly' for Elizabeth to join her at school in Scarborough after returning from Meiningen in July 1874. Janet adds that she had been 'shocked' by Elizabeth's comments about the school ball in Saxe-Meiningen. |
