TitleLetter from Mary Jane Taylor to Margaret and Elizabeth Taylor
LevelItem
Date18 August 1872
DescriptionIn this letter Mary Taylor asks Margaret and Elizabeth to tell Miss Trinks that a letter she had sent to the girls' parents in England had gone missing in the post. Reflecting the Taylor family's Quaker principles, Mary Taylor refers to the girls' request to participate in dancing lessons. She writes 'Papa says he cannot reply at present about the dancing lessons he must think more about it before he gives leave' and asks Elizabeth not to be disappointed. Mary Taylor provides an account of recent family activities and describes the girls' new brother Edwin Claude. She also remarks on preparations for the wedding of her sister Caroline Cash and the family's recent visit to Dorking. Mary Taylor concludes her letter with comments about some photographs of the school in Saxe-Meiningen which Margaret and Elizabeth had sent home.
