| Title | Elizabeth Taylor's exercise book for English composition |
| Level | Item |
| Date | 1874 |
| Description | This exercise book features a short unfinished essay written in English about the Tower of London. The book also includes three poems written by Elizabeth Taylor entitled 'The Fishes' Parliament', 'Moral' and 'The Wonga-Wonga'. The majority of the pages in this book are blank. An annotated typescript of Elizabeth Taylor's poem 'The Fishes' Parliament' dated March 1875 features elsewhere amongst her personal papers, suggesting that she revised and developed the poem once leaving school in Germany. The Wonga-Wonga was the name of the boat owned by the family of Elizabeth's school friend from Saxe-Meiningen, Edith Graham. It is possible that Elizabeth may have based her poem of the same name on her experiences sailing with Edith on the boat. |
