DescriptionIn this letter Josephine Hoyland sympathises with Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury, describing her disappointment after 'all the tremendous effort' which her sister had put into her election campaign. Despite her defeat, Hoyland suggests that 'the Liberal cause in Kings Norton' would be 'really flourishing' following Taylor Cadbury's efforts. Hoyland includes some remarks made by her husband about Taylor Cadbury being spared the 'tremendous burden of Parliamentary life'.

AdminHistoryJosephine Hoyland (nee Taylor), a younger sister of Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury, married John William Hoyland in 1906. John William Hoyland was the warden of Kingsmead, a Quaker training college founded in Selly Oak by the Cadbury family in 1905. Kingsmead provided training for missionaries entering into Quaker service overseas. On her marriage to Hoyland, Josephine became stepmother to his two sons Jack and Geoffrey Hoyland.
