| Description | The earliest of these two newscuttings dated 3rd January 1936 refers to Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury being amongst the 'prominent members of the National Council of Women' travelling to Calcutta to attend the World Conference of Women. The newscutting remarks on the papers being delivered by other British and international delegates at the conference.
The second newscutting dated 1st February 1936 reports on the proceedings of the conference, remarking on the Presidential Address delivered by the Maharani of Baroda which focussed on the development of education for girls and women in India. The report provides an overview of the development of the International Council of Women, suggesting that the decision to hold the Conference in India was 'a tribute to the fine work that has been done in the face of enormous difficulties and persistent discouragement by the women's organizations' in the country. |
