TitleCopy of an appeal for funds by the Friends Service Council
LevelItem
DateOctober 1947
DescriptionThis document is a typed copy of the letter which the Friends Service Council intended to print in 'The Times' newspaper to gather support for their appeal. The letter remarks on the 'suffering and misery' in India caused by political disputes following the granting of Indian independence and flooding which had resulted in famine and poverty throughout the Punjab. Referring to the need for voluntary service, the letter appeals for support to increase resources to carry out this work, drawing attention to an appeal for funds recently issued by the National Christian Council of India and the work of the Friends Service Council who were involved in the establishment of refugee camps and the maintenance of medical units. The letter states that donors 'may be assured that their gifts will increase the means by which a ministry of healing and goodwill may be extended to sufferers, without discrimination of race or religion'.
