| Description | This small leatherette covered volume is a Walker's diary for the year 1902. The front pages of the diary feature a calendar which has been annotated with ink lines in some places. The volume also includes a number of pages for memoranda, one of which features part of an address written in French.
The diary includes daily entries written by Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury in ink, a number of which have been underlined in red. These entries appear to relate to the underlined in red appear to relate to the establishment of Woodbrooke, the Quaker college founded by the Cadburys during the early twentieth century. One of the underlined entries dated Friday 2nd May 1902 begins:
'Pay calls in B.ville village - aft. J. Wilhelm Rowntree come - talk with him of Woodbrooke'.
This page has been marked with a piece of newspaper torn from 'The Times' dated 11th December 1922. This suggests that Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury may have revisited and underlined these entries during the 1920s, possibly whilst she was researching details for a public address or producing a document relating to the history of Woodbrooke. A loose piece of paper is enclosed within pages for the beginning of January which includes notes relating to family health and holidays during 1900 and 1901. Each page of the diary features a box entitled 'memo', the majority of which have been left blank. Subsequent pages at the back of the diary have also been left blank. |
