DescriptionIn this letter Elizabeth Taylor provides an overview of the places she had visited so far during her tour of Switzerland and also an account of her activities which included walking, singing, sketching, bathing and boating. She remarks that she had also attended an organ recital at a Cathedral in Luzern. Elizabeth writes 'the lake & mountains & snow look so glorious by moonlight', and comments that she had sent some mountain ferns home to be planted in the Taylor family's garden.

Elizabeth Taylor's letter provides an insight into her adventures travelling by boat and climbing mountains, featuring a detailed description of a mountain sunrise that she had seen. She remarks on the 'glorious' glacier fed lakes and mountains, commenting that she wished the party had been able to stay longer in each place they had visited. Elizabeth also describes paddling in an icy stream and eating wild strawberries in the woods before stopping in an alpine village, Unterschechen, where she had spoken German and had been guided over a dangerous alpine pass. She remarks 'the wildest imagination cannot paint the glories of Switzerland; I had no conception of any-thing half so grand & glorious.'
