DescriptionIn 1883 Elizabeth Taylor's aunt and uncle Caroline and George Barrow arranged for Elizabeth to accompany them on a tour of Switzerland with a party of young people. The letters in this section were written by Elizabeth Taylor and sent home to her mother Mary Jane Taylor in England during the weeks she spent touring Switzerland. The section also contains a postcard which Elizabeth Taylor sent to her elder sister Margaret Taylor and a letter sent to Elizabeth by her mother.

Elizabeth Taylor's letters to her mother are written in the style of a journal, providing a detailed account of her travelling party's daily activities and describing the places they visited. Elizabeth Taylor's letters also include a detailed commentary recording her impressions of the Swiss scenery which she encountered.
