Enthusiastic about the Cadburys' work to improve working and living conditions for Birmingham people through the development of Bournville, Taylor Cadbury writes that Newman had praised the Village as 'a splendid testimony to applied Christianity'. Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury also provides a brief account of Newman's professional appointments and remarks on his marriage in 1898 to Adelaide Thorp, pencil annotations revealing that Newman had been 'a great favourite' amongst the Cadbury children. Describing their close association through work developing school medical services, Taylor Cadbury remarks that Newman had been 'encouraging and inspiring' in her efforts to establish school clinics in Birmingham. She adds that Newman's 'time and thought' went beyond the improvements he instigated in 'health administration', commenting on his 'friendship and sympathy' and the close relationship between the Taylor, Cadbury and Newman families. Taylor Cadbury concludes with remarks about Newman's work for 'The Friend' and the 'Friends' Quarterly Examiner' which he edited anonymously from 1899 until 1939.
