| Description | This section contains letters sent to Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury both as an individual and also to Taylor Cadbury and her husband George Cadbury as a couple by Henrietta Barnett during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Many of the letters relate to Henrietta Barnett's visit to Bournville and the influence of the village on Barnett and her husband. The letters include references to projects inspired by Bournville, particularly Henrietta Barnett's own initiative, the Hampstead Garden Suburb which began in 1903. Henrietta Barnett also remarks frequently on her ill-health and refers to Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's philanthropic work, including her visit to Washington in 1925 for the International Conference of Women. Henrietta Barnett also describes how she was inspired by the example of Taylor Cadbury's life and comments on being created Dame of the British Empire in 1924. |
