TitleLetter from Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury to Henry Wilson Harris
LevelItem
Date07 February 1949
DescriptionThis letter was written by Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury to Henry Wilson Harris in response to his request that she write an article about life aged ninety to feature in the magazine. Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury declined Harris's offer, remarking in her letter that her life was 'uncommonly like it was at 70, or even 60, as I seem to be involved in so many commitments and possibilities'. Taylor Cadbury also suggests that such an article might 'alarm people' who were approaching a similar age. The second paragraph of this letter features many references to family news, Elizaberth Taylor Cadbury remarking on a recent meeting with Harris's wife Florence and referring to her nephews John and Howard who were in South Africa.

AdminHistoryElizabeth Taylor Cadbury was associated with Henry Wilson Harris (1883-1955), editor of 'The Spectator' and his wife Florence through their many mutual acquaintances. Born into a devout Quaker family, Henry Wilson Harris was the nephew of Dr. Rendel Harris who was the first Principal and Director of Studies at Woodbrooke. In addition, Harris had also worked on George Cadbury's newspaper the 'Daily News' under the leadership of editor A. G. Gardiner who became George Cadbury's biographer following his death in 1922.
