TitleLetter from Sylvia Campbell to Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury
LevelItem
Date20 November 1909
DescriptionIn this letter Sylvia Campbell thanks Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury for a photograph of Bournville which she had sent to her, signed by Elizabeth's husband George Cadbury. Writing from her home in Thames Ditton in Surrey, Sylvia Campbell asks Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury to thank George Cadbury for allowing them to visit the Cadbury Works and Bournville village, thanking him 'particularly for the immensely interesting day', noting how the visit was 'a most splendid experience to look back on - seeing round the works and the village.'

Sylvia Campbell notes that her visit to Bournville had 'impressed her deeply' because it had shown her 'that something can be done - and is being done - to make the lives of the working people wholesome and beautiful.' She writes that she would 'never forget' what she had seen in Bournville and thanks both of the Cadburys for her experience. She also thanks Elizabeth for making the Campbells' stay in Birmingham 'so comfortable and so pleasant', noting how gratefully they would 'look back on the delightful evenings at the Manor House'.
