TitleElizabeth Taylor's class register for the Friends' First-Day School
LevelItem
Date1876
DescriptionThis class register dates from 1876 when Elizabeth Taylor began teaching a Sunday school class for young children in Peckham under the auspices of the Friends' First-Day School Association. The class register contains a list of Scripture Lessons for each Sunday in 1876 and a calendar. Printed in London by the Sunday School Union, the register was intended for use alongside the Sunday school teachers' pocket-book and diary 'to assist Sunday school teachers in the fulfilment of their important duties.' Directions inside the document state that it was to be used to record 'the most correct information respecting the attendance and progress of each scholar.'

Elizabeth Taylor's class register contains the names and addresses of the young girls who attended her Sunday school class before she was given responsibility for a class of teenage boys in November 1880. The register also contains pages recording the girls' weekly attendance at the classes. A column on the far right of these pages appears to have been used to record whether the children were early or late in arriving for their classes.

The last pages of the register provide printed information about the Sunday School Union established in 1803 and advertisements for hymn books and Sunday school stationery.
