DescriptionThis section contains letters sent by Elizabeth Taylor to her mother and father whilst she was working in Belleville. The letters provide an insight into Elizabeth Taylor's experiences of Paris including her work at the medical mission. Elizabeth refers to her work in the mission's dispensary, as well as her experiences liaising with patients and making clothing at the mission's orphanage. She also remarks on her work teaching an adult class of male students in Paris. Elizabeth Taylor's letters include comments relating to her experiences of Parisian life such as remarks about the poor housing conditions in the city, her visits to Parisian markets and landmarks such as the Palace of Versailles. She also comments about events in Paris such as the funeral of Victor Hugo. In a number of letters Elizabeth Taylor responds to news from home relating to her family's domestic situation and business difficulties. She also refers to her parents' thirtieth wedding anniversary and her intention to undertake paid teaching work on her return to England.
