TitleLetter from Mary Jane Taylor to Elizabeth Pettifer Lucas Cash
LevelItem
Date03 January 1860
DescriptionIn this letter Mary Jane Taylor writes that she had been unable to attend Quaker Meeting and remarks on visits to family which she had made with her sister Ann Cash (Annie). She also comments on social activities and acquaintances. By 1860 Mary Jane Taylor had given birth to three daughters Margaret, Elizabeth and Janet. She writes here about 'waiting on the three hungry chickens' in the nursery at home and describes the family's activities the previous evening. She remarks that her daughters had been suffering from colds and notes that the gas lamp in the nursery had fallen and shattered during the night. She also writes about Margaret playing outdoors with her hoop and comments that the family's garden at Elm Place was looking nice. She concludes with remarks about a relative named Bessie Lucas.

Please note that the first page of this letter is missing. The dating of this letter is also confusing as the pages are marked with a number of different dates. However, Mary Jane Taylor has included a date at the end of this letter written in traditional Quaker form which suggests that it was written on 3rd January 1860.
