| Description | Gertrude Goodall Cash was the daughter of Elizabeth Taylor's uncle Frederick Goodall Cash and her aunt Martha who lived in Gloucester and the sister of Louise Goodall Cash who also wrote to Elizabeth Taylor on her 21st birthday.
Writing from Stroud Villas, Gertrude apologises for not sending a letter to Elizabeth before her birthday and refers to a belated birthday present which she, her sister Louise and her mother had sent to Elizabeth. Gertrude remarks that she had not been pleased with the present which Louise had originally chosen to send to Elizabeth during a visit to Cheltenham, describing their difficulties in exchanging the gift for a more suitable Grecian style vase. Gertrude tells Elizabeth that a glass ornament contained within their gift had been sent by her cousins, Gertrude's siblings Mabel and Herbert Goodall Cash. Mabel Goodall Cash married John Henry Barlow in 1883. Barlow later became the Secretary of the Bournville Village Trust, appointed by Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's husband George Cadbury.
Gertrude concludes her letter by referring to her recovering health and thanking Elizabeth's elder sister Margaret Taylor (Pearlie) for a letter which she had sent to her. Remarking on the presence of Elizabeth's grandmother at her birthday celebrations, Gertrude sends her love to all of Elizabeth's family. |
