DescriptionCharles Wilfrid Valentine (1879-1964), retired Professor of Education at the University of Birmingham and editor of the British Journal of Educational Psychology sent this letter to Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury to congratulate her on her ninetieth birthday. He writes 'in spirit I am sure you are as young as when I met you in my first year in Birmingham, nearly 30 years ago.'

Valentine thanks Taylor Cadbury for her 'many kindnesses', noting particularly her interest in the department of Education at the University of Birmingham. He concludes his letter writing that he was no longer in charge of the Education Department at the University but kept a room there to carry out his editorial work. Reflecting Taylor Cadbury's long life in public service he adds 'like yourself I want to work as long as I live.' Valentine describes Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury as 'one who could do great work graciously & make goodness attractive - a rare gift.'

AdminHistoryElizabeth Taylor Cadbury maintained a close association with the University of Birmingham throughout her life and was awarded an honorary MA from the University in 1919 for her services to education in Birmingham. She was one of the first members of the University of Birmingham's Board of Govenors following the institution's founding by Royal Charter in 1900. Taylor Cadbury was also responsible for founding the Elizabeth Cadbury and the George Cadbury prizes in Education at the University which are noted in Valentine's letter.
