| Description | This section contains correspondence sent to and written by Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury on the occasion of her ninetieth birthday. Taylor Cadbury received almost two hundred letters congratulating her on reaching ninety years, including correspondence from family, social acquaintances and from colleagues involved with Taylor Cadbury in her public philanthropic work. The section also includes a particularly notable unfinished letter from Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's American cousin the Quaker academic Rufus Jones who died before he was able to sign his letter congratulating Taylor Cadbury on her forthcoming birthday. The letter was completed by Rufus Jones's wife and daughter and was marked 'very special' by Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury.
Two letters in this section from Taylor Cadbury's grandsons describe the celebrations held to commemorate their grandmother's birthday, including the large family party and a special gathering of the Bournville Meeting at the Friend's Meeting House in the village which Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury had helped to establish in the early 1900s. Letters from Charles W. Valentine and Henry T. Wigley reflect Taylor Cadbury's local influence through her involvement with the University of Birmingham, and also her contribution to the Society of Friends through her work with the Free Church Federal Council. |
