LevelItem
Date24 March 1931
DescriptionElizabeth Taylor Cadbury wrote to Carl Heath in 1931 regarding a meeting of the Friends Service Committee. Taylor Cadbury was unable to attend the meeting and wrote to Heath regarding an item on the agenda relating to 'the use of armed forces by Missionaries on Foreign Service'. In her letter Taylor Cadbury protests against the criticism of missionaries who had been forced to 'accept protection in countries where disturbances are taking place.' Taylor Cadbury's letter also includes comments encouraging young people within the Religious Society of Friends to volunteer for foreign service. She writes:

'What will be the future of our Society; groups of commonplace bourgeoisie content with their little Meetings and Conferences.'

Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury also remarks on 'the heroic persistence and faithful devotion of Irene Hutchinson' and others like her involved in missionary work.
