| Description | Black and white group photograph mounted in a small folded card showing George Cadbury and a group of other young men during his business apprenticeship with the Rowntree family. The Rowntrees were another successful Quaker manufacturing family who ran a grocery business based in York. Annotations on the card state that the photograph was taken in York in 1858. The men shown in the photograph are as follows: Back row, left to right: George Gillet and George Cadbury Front row, left to right: Joseph Pelvin, J.S. Rowntree and Lewis Fry. A further copy of this photograph can be found amongst Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's personal papers. |
