DescriptionThis section contains photographs relating to the Cadbury family, the Cadbury chocolate factories in Birmingham and Bournville and Bournville village during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The Cadbury Family Papers contains boxes and albums of photographs taken between 1824 and 1965 including images of the Cadbury chocolate factories at Bull Street and Bridge Street in Birmingham and nine boxes of images relating to the Cadbury factory at Bournville and Bournville village. Two boxes of photographs relating to George Cadbury (1839-1922), his second wife Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury (1858-1951) and their family are also contained within the Cadbury Family Papers alongside a box of photographs commemorating the activities of the Bournville Youth Club. The photograph albums include images relating to the Cadbury enterprise overseas such as photographs from Trinidad, Samoa, Ceylon and San Thome taken between 1897 and 1906. Albums relating to the Cadbury chocolate manufactory at Bournville and Bournville village, groups of Cadbury employees and the Bournville Youth Club are also featured alongside an album of images commemorating the Cadbury centenary celebrations in 1931. In addition, the collection includes images relating to royal visits to Bournville in 1919 and 1939 as well as war record photographs taken during the 1940s. The Cadbury Family Papers also contains glass negatives, local history slides, exhibition photographs and a collection of duplicate photographs compiled for Cadbury publications.

Two boxes of personal photographs relating to George Cadbury and Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury, as well as a related album containing photographs commemorating the Royal visit to Bournville by King George V in 1919, have been catalogued in detail here as part of work in progress on the Cadbury Family Papers.

Photographs of Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury and George Cadbury:
This section contains two boxes of personal photographs relating to George Cadbury, Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury and their families which have been catalogued here in two separate series to represent their original box structure. These boxes include images of earlier generations of both the Cadbury and Taylor families as well as photographs of the Cadbury children. Portraits of George Cadbury and Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury feature here alongside group photographs showing the couple with their children and grandchildren. Images of personal and public occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and the Royal visit to Bournville by King George V are also contained with George and Elizabeth Cadbury's personal photographs. Photographs showing the Cadburys with prominent public individuals and groups such as Marie Curie, Sir Adrian Boult and public groups including the Town Planning Association feature here alongside photographs of events in Bournville such as the annual Children's Festival and Employees' Exhibition. Many of the later images contained within Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's personal photographs relate to her public activities in Bournville and Birmingham following her husband's death in 1922, including her involvement with housing development as Chairman of the Bournville Village Trust.
