Applicant overview: The UQSC was established in 1969 by the Ulster Quarterly Meeting of Friends in order to address the emerging conflict in Northern Ireland. The UQSC operates a visitor centre in Maze Prison, a lunch club for the elderly, a family holiday scheme, a transport service, an activity centre at Quaker Cottage, works with unemployed youth and community employment schemes. Nature of support: The Trust agreed to support the salary of a secretary to administer the many activities of the Ulster Friends in 1979. Three annual grants of £4,500 were approved for April 1980 to March 1983. Three subsequent annual grants were made at enhanced level of £5,500 from April 1983 to March 1985. The Fund provided a series of small grants to a family relocated from Belfast to Birmingham as well as for the 'Children at Play' project.
