Applicant overview: The HYCP was created in 1986 to 1) prevent crime in the Handsworth, Lozells and Aston areas of Birmingham, 2) help relieve poverty, promote peace and security, 3) make provision for constructive leisure activities for young people, 4) to work for the improvement in the range of community facilities available in local neighbourhoods, 5) develop training programmes of benefit to the community providing useful employment for long term unemployed young people, 6) to develop better understanding between the Authorities, police and the young people of Handsworth, Lozells and Aston, 7) to fight against discrimination and injustice by non-violent means, 8) to provide assistance for protecting people, particularly the young and elderly, and property, 9) to provide centres for the supply of advice and guidance, and 10) to educate young people in schools and in the neighbourhood against the use of drugs.
