LevelFile
Date1985 - 1986
DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, copies of published material, newspaper cuttings, reports, project proposals, newsletters and funding requests relating to the Manpower Services Commission (MSC), Community Aid Programme (CAP). Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: MSC was created under the leadership of the Heath government as a non-departmental public body established in 1973. CAP was a major MSC project aimed to get the unemployed into temporary work. Nature of support: No grant was made. Cadbury Trustees disagreed with the CAP scheme for philosophical and pragmatic reasons, feeling that temporary work schemes did not offer a long-term solution to employment problems and that the lower pay being advocated was similarly unhelpful. For this reason the Cadbury Trusts would not become involved in CAP projects. Minutes: B&GSCT 6316. Notes: This file contains an article written for New Society by Anthony Wilson articulating the Trustees/Directors opposition to CAP. Much of the file relates to the view of various trusts on this scheme. File organised by date from newest to oldest. File numbered '7/7/3A'.
