Applicant overview: CAJ was established in 1981 as an independent group of academics, lawyers and community activists concerned about civil liberties and the maintenance of standards of administration of justice. Nature of support: In 1989 the Trust approved three annual grants of £10,000 to CAJ. The final grant was increased to £14,000. In 1991 three further annual grants of £20,000 were approved towards running costs. In 1994 the Fund agreed to offer three annual grants of £20,000 per annum to CAJ. In 1997 the Trust agreed to pay three further grants of £30,000 to be paid through the Human Rights Trust (HRT). Support was continued from 2000 at the same level for three more years.
