Applicant overview: NIRA was established to 1) stimulate and encourage the advancement and improvement of all aspects of rural life in Northern Ireland, 2) act as a meeting point for all those organisations involved in the social, economic and environmental improvement, 3) identify and take action on issues of concern to residents of rural areas, 4) improve communication and dissemination of information on local central government policy to rural groups, to encourage communication between such groups and to break down the isolation of groups in rural areas, 5) stimulate and facilitate self-help and other schemes in rural areas and to concentrate on the means by which voluntary and public agencies could initiate and foster the growth of such enterprises in rural communities, 6) improve the understanding of the nature of rural problems among the urban population of Northern Ireland and 7) do all such lawful things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objects or any of them.
