Applicant overview: The Centre serves as a focal point for a number of local and community services in Belfast. The Centre provides employment advice, leisure time opportunities, sport activities, education opportunities and volunteer roles to assist the community. Nature of support: In 1989 the Trust agreed to three annual grants of £6,000 per annum towards the salary costs of a women's worker. In 1992 the final part of this grant was rescinded as the appointed worker had taken up a post elsewhere. In 1990 a two-year grant of £6,000 per annum was made to enable a former long-term political prisoner to continue to manage a team of young ex-offenders at the New Lodge centre. This grant was subsequently increased by £1,000 per annum. In 1996 annual grants of £7,000 were approved for up to three years to fund a training post.
