Applicant overview: The Nine O'Clock Service is a youth-oriented alternative Christian worship service that was started in 1986 at St Thomas' Church in Crookes, Sheffield by a group of Christian musicians and artists. The Trust overseeing the Service became a registered charity in 1990. Nature of support: In 1994 the Trust agreed to a single grant of £15,000 to the Nine O'Clock Service to further its social support for young people. In 1995 the Trust agreed to a single grant to £5,000 towards staff leadership training costs. Allegations of abuse by a leader of the organisation led to the return of this grant.
